Account removal
Closing your FirstMate account deletes it and everything in it. This page says how, and exactly what goes. It is a genuine deletion, it runs on our servers rather than in the app, and it cannot be undone.
In the app
The quickest way, and the one that needs nobody's help:
- 1 Open FirstMate and go to Profile.
- 2 Tap the settings cog, then Account.
- 3 Tap Delete account, and confirm.
If you no longer have the app
Write to privacy@firstmate.app from the address you signed up with, and ask us to close your account. We will do it and tell you when it is done. We will respond within one month, and in practice sooner. We will not charge you, and we will not make it difficult.
What is deleted
- Your profile: your name, your picture and your location.
- Every trip you recorded, including its full route.
- Your photographs, on trips and on reviews.
- Your comments, your likes and your reviews.
- Your saved places and your route plans.
- Everyone you gongoozle and everyone who gongoozles you, in both directions.
- Any boat you own, together with its GPS history.
- The login itself.
What stays, and why
One deliberate exception: a trip somebody else has claimed onto their own logbook stays in their record when you delete a boat, because it is their trip too. It keeps the boat's name and stops linking anywhere.
Deleted data may also persist in backups for a short period before being overwritten in the ordinary course.
Something short of deletion
You do not have to close the account to remove a single trip: open the trip in the app and delete it there, and its route, its pictures and the comments on it go with it. Nor to get a copy of your data out. Write to the same address and ask. The Privacy Policy sets out every right you have and what we hold in the first place.
